2. Choosing materials
Laser welding is based on the absorption of light energy by the material. This absorption must be high enough to reach the material's melting point. If the aim is to weld two materials together, this energy must be concentrated at the joint.
For edge-to-edge welding, you won't encounter any major difficulties.
For other configurations, the challenge of laser welding is to concentrate the light energy by passing through one material without passing through the other.
