4.1 Don't lose sight of the goal!
Contrary to what you might think at first glance, controlling project costs is not just a question of numbers. Simply collecting data and producing the corresponding tracking and variance tables is not enough to control costs.
Stay in touch with concrete reality. This means paying particular attention to any "holes in the picture". Never lose sight of the fact that the role of the cost estimator is not to be the censor of what has been achieved... Concentrate on estimating what remains to be done, the only element on which it is still possible to act.
