3. Identify the functions of your assembly: does it have to accept deformation or not?

An assembly is designed to accept or reject deformation. We speak of deformation of the assembly structure, and in particular of relative movements between substrates.

The choice of process depends in part on the presence or absence of relative movement between substrates.

3.1 In the absence of relative movement: rigid structural assembly

The choice of assembly technique is therefore vast: virtually every option is possible. However, it is important to bear in mind :

  • assembly clearance thickness ;

  • transmission of forces or stresses ;

  • the nature of the substrates.
