1.1 The materials to be joined, or substrates

The following steps are essential:

• fully identify the substrates involved in the assembly by obtaining their respective technical data sheets;

• do your own material strength testing on samples;

• check, for each substrate :

  • surface tension ;

  • porosity ;

  • specific surface ;

  • the possibility of external contamination or pollution ;

  • the existence of active sites when chemically reactive materials (certain glue families) are added to the assembly....
