7. Differentiate between design verification and validation

ISO 9001 chapter 8.3.4 provides for two distinct quality assurance activities at the product design stage: verification and validation.

Verification and validation are activities that need to be planned during the design project planning phase: see Step 4 "Plan design project quality assurance milestones". The results of these activities are intended to be taken into account during design reviews (see Step 5 "Set up design reviews").

As in the case of a design review, the aim is to ratify orientations, firstly in terms of the ability to satisfy the requirements expressed in the input data, and secondly in terms of the application and use for which the product or service is intended.
