2. Managing tasks in MS Project 2007 and 2010

2.1 Task chronology and communication

MS Project 2010 borrows this simplified task representation from MS Visio.

The timeline displays tasks and milestones selected by the planner on a graduated ruler; this ruler can be displayed above the main display, e.g. the Gantt chart, or full-screen. In both cases, this display highlights the selected tasks.

  • Open the project and make sure the Gantt chart is displayed.

  • Select the [Display] tab of the ribbon. In the [Split display] zone, check the [Timeline] box. The timeline is graduated from month to month. If today's date falls within the chronology display period, it appears as Today.
