 INTRODUCTION

Building a reference database for an organization's materials and processes is a major challenge in terms of preserving technical heritage. In particular, this type of system can play an important role in product design quality assurance.

What are the challenges of a materials database?

  • Manage experimental data (mechanical tests, ageing, etc.)

  • Structuring in-house expertise and feedback on materials

  • Calculate material properties from raw test data

  • Get dimensioning assistance, calculation and simulation support

  • Produce material selection guides and comparisons

  • Automatically produce documents from capitalized data

  • Find materials data quickly

A materials database can have quite different objectives, depending on whether the company behind it is a materials producer, a processor focusing on processes, or a materials user generally focusing on its product.
