1. Know the conventions and definitions of a PERT network

The operations to be carried out are represented on a directed graph. This representation shows all the dependencies between tasks, which will enable us to determine their earliest and latest dates, the total time required for each task, and the critical path.

The main conventions of a PERT network are as follows:

  • each task is symbolized by an arc, to which is associated a numerical value corresponding to its duration ;

  • the vertices to which the arcs lead thus correspond to stages (or events), marking the completion of one or more tasks;

  • each stage is identified by a sequence number, with information on the earliest ("earliest date") and latest ("latest date") dates by which it can be reached to meet the project's optimum completion date. It is represented...
