1. Design fiction principles

To make it easier to understand the various practices involved in design fiction, we can break down its basic functioning into a few interrelated principles.

  • Projecting an audience into one or more visions of the future world

    The aim is to make them credible.

    The challenge is to think about the value of a projection, not its probability, so that its credibility is the key to ensuring that the audience's reflection does not focus on its plausibility.

    The notion of audience is key in practice, and covers all the people, or groups of people, who will interact with the fiction created. Depending on how the fiction is used (to design a new product, establish a strategic vision, draw up an ethical charter, etc.), the audiences will not be the same, and the form of the fiction...
