Backcasting

The practice of using a future vision to deduce current issues and actions to be taken in the immediate future.

Future cone

Foresight tool for visually defining future intervals for current data or scenarios.

Speculative design

This is the design practice of exploring the implications of future developments. These may be probable, possible or completely speculative futures.

Scenario planning

The practice of defining a number of future alternatives, known as "scenarios", for a given activity.
