Design fiction is a speculative method oriented towards debate and design. It is related to the strategic scenarios used in foresight, in that it aims to make future alternatives tangible.

According to the first definition given in 2009 by American designer Jordan Bleecker, , following a first draft by science fiction author Bruce Sterling , design fiction is "the deliberate use of diegetic prototypes to remove disbelief in change, bringing science facts and science fiction together in design practice.". .
