3. Restrict the query to certain sources with the site: operator on Google

The operator site: followed by the domain name extension allows you to restrict the search to web pages whose domain name ends with the indicated extension. We advise you to use this feature in two particular cases.

  • When you want to identify documents from a particular type of source, such as official sources for example, simply add the operator site:gouv.fr to your keywords to restrict the search to French ministry sites (their domain names always end in gouv.fr). This method can also be used to search specifically for American university sites ( site:edu ), American government sites ( site:gov ), etc.

  • The site: operator can also be used to limit the search not to a "top leveldomain", but to a website as a whole. For example, if you want to quickly find articles on polymers published on the Techniques de...
