5. Mistakes to avoid

The main mistake to avoid is not to define an intellectual property strategy with all its different components: identifying innovations, determining the methods of protection and their territorial scope, keeping an eye on the competition, and promoting innovations.

Acquiring a monopoly is useful mainly if you can exploit the innovation, directly or indirectly, and prevent unauthorized third parties from enjoying it.
