5. Our advice

  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team: as mentioned above, the industrial designer is an indispensable member of your design team, as are engineers and design technologists. Include a human resources specialist such as an ergonomist, or a disability specialist such as an occupational therapist. And if you have the opportunity, invite users to participate in the design process. This multidisciplinary approach will increase your project's chances of success.

  • Work with generalist partners: if you're designing a product aimed directly or indirectly at a mass market, contact suppliers, subcontractors and distributors who are generalists, i.e. not specialized in the disability market (e.g. manufacturers of sporting goods or automotive products). This will give you a greater chance to innovate: through technology, design, distribution channels...
