5. Measuring the effectiveness of open innovation
No systematic indicator of measurement stands out, despite the fact that a large majority of the companies interviewed stated that they wanted to increase their share of open innovation; this seems to be an area that is little, if at all, objectively assessed today. Could the declared desire to increase external contributions be the result of a sudden trend, of an unspoken desire to reduce costs – such as the relocation of significant parts of vehicle engineering by certain automakers –, or is it the result of a proactive policy to revitalize and expand the network of contributors to innovation?
