6. Know the limits and risks of monitoring social networks

Although digital social networks help to co-construct knowledge, their analysis must be carried out with the difficulties inherent in this type of system in mind:

• the still limited impact of social networks on the scientific world, and the fact that most people do not use the social web, with traditional models of scientific communication still predominating; a frequent passive presence ;

• the crucial issue of publicizing research data, and more precisely of ensuring confidentiality, particularly for corporate researchers (visibility of research);

• the risks associated with possible reuse and plagiarism, particularly for ongoing research;

• the question of reliability, information validation and evaluation, and certification;
