1. Introduction

This article looks at the notion of "invention", defined as "the process leading to a new idea", and more specifically at "technical" invention, i.e. the process of creating a new practical idea, relating to an object or method intended for a given use.

The notion of "invention" lies at the crossroads of three notions from which it must be distinguished:

  • the notion of "innovation", mainly studied by sociology
