4.1 Technical solutions

Pinterest, another social web tool, lets you "organize and share the things you love". But you're still an infringer when you "pin" them to your virtual board without express authorization, whatever your purpose.

Pinterest had proposed that rights holders insert a "no-pin" code on images to prevent Pinterest users from retrieving images from them. From a copyright point of view, this opt-out is astonishing, since Pinterest would then be presumed to be able to glean all images not fitted with this code.

Since opt-out is (still) a risky option, Pinterest has cautiously moved towards opt-in by proposing to add a button expressly indicating that Pinterest users are authorized to collect images from a site....
