4. Confirm publication date and information

The date of a piece of information, or the period during which it was updated, is often essential to the information itself. For example, a company's sales figures are only of interest if they can be linked to a given year. The same applies to forecasts for the launch of a new product on the market.

Ideally, these two pieces of information (date of publication and date of the elements contained in the information) are clearly indicated in the publication itself. But you still need to take the time to read it.

Of course, if you have any doubts about the date of certain significant elements, look to third-party sources of information to check: company annual reports or activity reports, open data public statistics databases, studies and surveys from official bodies such as insee or polling companies such as Ipsos in France.
