5. Mistakes to avoid
Don't limit yourself to reading a single bibliometric indicator, but study several of them, and if possible over a period of time: this will help you identify a young journal, for example (with few articles and few citations).
Don't blindly cite the most cited references in your field. This is the fault with Google Scholar, which systematically positions high-profile articles on the first page, encouraging researchers to cite them and perpetuating the system.
Bibliometric indicators were originally created to measure the reputation of journals. They are currently used (too) frequently to evaluate the output of researchers and laboratories. Don't give them more importance than they have!
