3.1 Ecodesign of organized anchorages: example of the Deshaies MELZ (Guadeloupe)

Over the past ten years or so, yachts and pleasure craft have become a major presence in ecologically rich and sensitive areas, such as the Mediterranean seagrass beds (beds of aquatic phanerogamous plants such as posidonia) and coral reefs in the West Indies. These vessels anchor to the seabed, plowing through shallow waters and destroying protected or ecologically vital habitats: seagrass beds, coralligenous zones (limestone rock formations formed by encrusting algae) in the Mediterranean, and coral reefs in tropical zones.
