1. Nature-based solutions and eco-design of marine structures

Worldwide, there is a growing interest in nature-based solutions (NBS), which, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), are "actions aimed at protecting, sustainably managing and restoring natural or modified ecosystems to meet societal challenges in an efficient and adaptive manner, while ensuring human well-being and producing benefits for biodiversity". The eco-design of structures fits directly into this definition.
