1.1 Nature of non-ionizing radiation

Highly variable electromagnetic fields can have two origins:

• natural, such as the earth's magnetic field (responsible for the deviation of the compass needle), or the radiation emitted by the electrical activity of living beings (electro-physiological signals visible on electrocardiograms or electroencephalograms), by the stars or when lightning strikes;

• with four possible sources:

  • domestic: with the presence of power lines in homes, the use of cell phones, televisions, microwave ovens, induction cookers, alarms and all kinds of household appliances...,

  • environmental: high-voltage power lines, cell...
