2. Radon isotopes

When the Earth was formed some 5 billion years ago, matter comprised both stable and unstable atoms. Since then, however, the majority of unstable atoms have decayed into stable nuclides through radioactivity. However, there are still a few families of naturally occurring radionuclides.

2.1 Notions of natural radioactivity

Natural radioactivity is made up of three main categories of radioactive elements:
