5. Radon measurement
Some geographical areas have a high potential for radon exhalation, due to the geological characteristics of the terrain (granite subsoil, for example). The factors influencing measured radon activity are firstly directly related to the environment in which the gas is released and diffused, i.e. the rock, then to the ambient soil-air interface (atmosphere or built environment), and finally to the intrinsic properties of the surrounding environment.
The radon concentration measured inside homes depends on building type, airtightness (basements), room ventilation and occupant lifestyle.
