1. Context
Throughout their lives, human beings are exposed to numerous contaminants of anthropogenic origin (industrial fumes, food additives, pesticides...) or natural origin (forest fires, volcanic eruptions...) with a potentially deleterious impact on health. The links between exposure to environmental contaminants and human health are supported by numerous epidemiological and experimental studies. More recently, in silico modelling methods have complemented these approaches, enabling us to identify adverse effects and establish the toxic potential of a substance as a function of dose and the nature of exposure. Characterizing the adverse effects of a substance involves identifying the nature of its toxicity and establishing a relationship between the dose and frequency of exposure to this substance, and the response induced by this exposure, at the organism, organ or cell level. It also includes...
