3. Physico-bio-chemical properties of solid tumors

3.1 Solid tumors

The term cancer covers a number of diseases resulting from excessive and abnormal cell proliferation, leading to an overpopulation of cells that can spread throughout the body. The term solid tumor is used to describe cancers that develop in tissues other than blood. This article will focus on this type of cancer.

In the same way as the body, the tumor needs specific inputs to develop. The supply of nutrients and oxygen to the tumor, and the elimination of waste products, are ensured by the establishment of a vascular network induced by excessively low oxygenation (hypoxia).
