Overview

ABSTRACT

This article presents a general approach based on the principles of the theory of optimal control in order to improve the quality of images obtained by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Indeed, this powerful tool allows for the determination of the maximum possible contrast by providing pulse sequences that can be used experimentally to reach this limit. After having provided a pedagogical introduction to numerical methods for optimal control in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), this article demonstrates the efficiency of this approach in a laboratory experiment.
