4. Applications

Thanks to the versatility and adaptability of its properties, PVC is the only polymer covering all sectors of economic activity [13] . It is also still one of the most widely used, ranking third behind polyethylene and polypropylene in 2003, with worldwide consumption of 28 million tonnes, including almost 6 million tonnes in the European Union and 710,000 tonnes in France.

This diversity of properties and its ability to respond favorably to a number of combined requirements make PVC the material of choice for the building, packaging, electrical and electronics, transport and health sectors.

2/3 of PVC applications have a lifespan of over 15 years. It is now estimated that in some applications, PVC will even last more than 80 years!
