6. AFNOR

The Association française de normalisation (AFNOR) is the official French standards body. Founded in 1926, it operates under the supervision of the French Ministry of Industry. It has some 3,000 member companies. It represents France at ISO, CEN, CENELEC and IEC. In 2007, AFNOR joined forces with the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) to create the Réseau Normalisation et Francophonie (RNF). In 2014, AFNOR joined forces with UTE (Union technique de l'électricité).

AFNOR develops joint standards with its members, and plays a role in informing, promoting and publishing standards (AFNOR Normalisation and AFNOR Éditions). AFNOR publishes the NF standards collection, which usually identifies a document as NF L CC-CCC in the French national nomenclature.
