1. Zirconia extraction

The element zirconium is found in over thirty ores, some of which are listed in Table 1 . Most of these ores contain zirconium in the form of silicates or carbonates; zirconia occurs naturally in isolated form in only one ore: baddeleyite. Although the number of ores from which zirconia can be extracted is fairly large, only two of them are mined industrially to obtain zirconia: baddeleyite and zircon.
