2. Physical chemistry of pasty systems

The physico-chemical properties of pasty systems are numerous and depend on the intended technical application. Some are common to all pasty systems for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications, namely rheological properties and the molecular mobility of small molecules incorporated into the pasty matrix, which controls release rate and bioavailability. These properties are controlled by the chemical composition of the product (the formulation) and by the manufacturing process.
