8. Conclusions and outlook
Used since the dawn of humanity, perfumes are omnipresent in our society. However, they have evolved considerably over the centuries.
From simple fragrant raw materials, essentially plant-based, burned or macerated in fats, we've moved on to highly complex formulations adapted to the perfumed products we're aiming for.
Indeed, perfumery should not be reduced to fine or alcoholic fragrances, as perfumes are now present in many other products: we speak of functional perfumery.
All these products, though very different, are scented with a perfume concentrate composed of natural extracts (essential oils, absolutes and resinoids) and synthetic substances. The arrival of synthetic compounds in the 19th century revolutionized the world of perfumery and led to numerous olfactory innovations.
