1. Organic chemistry and perfumery

Organic chemistry is a field of chemistry that developed in the early 19th century with Friedrich Wöhler's accidental synthesis of urea, at a time when scientists thought it impossible to synthesize organic ("living") molecules, which would have required the use of a vital fluid in addition to the laws of physics. First linked to pharmaceuticals, then at the origin of the dye industry in England and Germany, its progress has accompanied many fields of scientific, technical and industrial activity, including perfumery.
