6. Anti-stress shampoos

Men, just like women - and perhaps even more than women, as we'll see later - are subject to a great deal of stress. In the words of Canadian physiologist Hans Selye (1907-1982), "It's not stress that kills us, but the way we react to it". Faced with stress of any kind (pathology, adverse environmental conditions, human relationships), the body reacts rapidly by producing adrenaline (medullary axis) and more slowly by producing cortisol (hypothalamo-hypophyseal axis). On average, ten milligrams of cortisol are produced daily. This hormone helps maintain homeostasis and interferes with the immune system. Depending on conditions, cortisol is produced in greater or lesser quantities. While an increase or decrease in cortisol synthesis has no immediate effects, it is implicated in a number of pathologies and situations of concern over the long term.
