2. Greasy hair

2.1 The impact of physiology on formulation

Greasy hair is the result of a disorder of the sebaceous glands. An abnormal quantity of sebum is secreted (seborrhea). This situation is hormone-dependent. Testosterone is converted into dihydrotesterone (DHT) by the action of 5α-reductase. DHT is the active molecule. It is able to bind to specific receptors in various organs. A number of factors influence this situation: heredity, disturbance of the neurovegetative system (stress, emotional shock, upset), certain medications (anticoagulants, diuretics... which increase seborrhea), pollution, the use of excessively detergent shampoos... Plant extracts and clays are the active ingredients most frequently used. Use a gentle cleansing base, i.e. one that is not too detergent, to avoid the phenomenon...
