4. Batteries for electric vehicles

The battery is the energy source of the electric car. Li-ion technology currently dominates the market, although NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries have been used in hybrid vehicles such as the Toyota Prius. We're going to take a look at this field, which is evolving very rapidly in response to the huge demand from automakers.

4.1 From lead to Li-ion batteries

The rechargeable lead-acid battery was invented in 1859 by the Frenchman Gaston Planté. Its advantage is low cost, but its disadvantage is low stored energy density.
