ALE (Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian)

The Eulerian description is used to study fluid flows at a fixed point in space. The Lagrangian description is used to study the movement of structures at a point that follows their displacement. A Lagrangian mesh adapts to motion, and can sometimes undergo such deformations that it is no longer possible to calculate! An Eulerian mesh is fixed: it has a limited capacity to describe a sometimes highly complex motion. Between the two approaches, the Arbitrary Lagangian-Eulerian (ALE) mesh ( – ) draws on the advantages of both descriptions, while limiting their drawbacks.
