3. Summarize who does what and how

Since government officials no longer carry out metrological controls, the uncertainty calculations are carried out by private companies. In legal metrology, metrological control operations are divided into several categories:

  • commissioning checks, such as initial verification or installation checks;

  • periodic inspections, such as the periodic check.

Both initial and installation checks are carried out by companies whose quality assurance system has been approved by the designated body, i.e. LNE. This quality system is based on the October 29, 2004 decision setting out the detailed requirements applicable to the quality assurance systems of manufacturers, repairers and installers of regulated measuring instruments.
