1. Understanding the concept of "measurement uncertainty
In 1995, JCGM WG1 published JCGM 100, "Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty of Measurement", which was revised in 2008 with minor corrections. It became NF ISO/IEC Guide 98-3 in 2014. This document marks a milestone in the assessment of measurement uncertainties. The method it proposes, based on simple statistical and mathematical properties (additivity of variances and propagation law), was rapidly adopted worldwide and is still the reference method today.
In 2008, the JCGM WG1 published document JCGM 101 "Evaluation of measurement data — Supplement 1 to the "Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement" — Propagation of distributions using a Monte Carlo method".
