Good management of a company's measuring equipment must be based first and foremost on day-to-day control of measurement-related risks. No method of calculating periodicity can anticipate accidents. It is therefore necessary to prioritize measurement-related issues in order to draw up a relevant measurement resources management plan. The OPPERET method (see Bibliography "Optimizing calibration periodicity: the OPPERET method" by CFM and fascicule FD X07-014) is an excellent tool for this. In addition to calculating periodicities, this method can be used to prioritize the efforts required to guarantee risks. This method also has the advantage of putting metrology back at the heart of the company, by involving all personnel concerned with measurements in the definition of criteria.
