4.1 CPC: a preparative technique
We have already seen the technological specifics of using a liquid stationary phase in chromatography. As far as the sample is concerned, the liquid nature of the stationary phase also offers two major advantages:
a very high loading capacity, as column overloading is often only related to the solubility limit of the compound in the phases. On a column of the same volume, it is common to inject a quantity 2 to 10 times greater in CPC than in HPLC;
the guarantee of no sample loss. There is no non-reversible adsorption on the stationary phase or possible cross-contamination, and if a compound has too high or infinite retention, it can be extruded with the liquid stationary...
