4. Differences between CMC and CIE94 equations

The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) has proposed an acceptability equation known as CIE 94 (kl,kc,kh), which competes with the CMC equation (l:c). As the latter is widely used in the textile industry in the form of CMC (2:1), it is logical to ask what the difference is between these two equations. We provide some explanations in the following [16] .

The CIE 94 equation uses the same principle as the CMC equation; however, it should bring progress, since the equation parameters are linked to the sample observation mode. This is of course a constraint, but progress can only be made through greater rigor. Until we know exactly how the parameters of the CIE 94 equation are determined, we're tempted to use it with the same parameters as the CMC equation (2:1). What are we to make of this?...
