1. Principle
Methods for characterizing the porosity of solids are generally based on capillarity phenomena, which are due to the interfacial forces existing in a three-phase solid/liquid/gas system. Let's look at what happens in two very simple situations where a glass capillary is immersed in water or mercury (figure 1 ).
