1.1 Activity of a radioactive source

A radioactive sample is characterized by its activity (A), which is the number of disintegrations per unit of time.

The unit of activity is the becquerel, symbol Bq: 1 Bq = 1 disintegration per second.

The old unit of measurement for radioactivity was the curie (Ci) : 1Ci=3,7×1010Bq
