8. Vibrating fork sensors

8.1 Symmetrical blade system

Two blades, arranged like a tuning fork, are raised to their resonant frequency (of the order of a hundred hertz) by the piezoelectric effect. When immersed in a liquid or bulk solid, the resulting damping causes a relay to switch (figure 31 ).
