8. Conclusion

The aim of this article is to help users of the 1990 International Temperature Scale (ITS-90) to understand the influencing parameters involved in calibrating a standard platinum resistance thermometer at the fixed temperature points specified between the triple point of argon (-189.344 2°C) and the freezing point of silver (961.78°C).

As most of these parameters are still under investigation, the methods described for assessing the associated uncertainties are suggested, not imposed. The reader is free to adopt any approach compatible with current knowledge of physics and the rules governing uncertainty calculations.

Readers should bear in mind that the numerical values assigned in the text to the uncertainty components are indicative; it will be up to them to determine the appropriate uncertainty values for their equipment and procedures....
