5.1 Towards a quantum definition of the ampere

In the International System of Units, the basic electrical unit is the ampere, defined as: "the intensity of a constant electric current which, maintained in two parallel, straight conductors of infinite length, of negligible circular cross-section and placed at a distance of one meter from each other in a vacuum, would produce between these conductors a force of 2 × 10 -7 newton per meter of length".

In particular, this definition fixing µ 0 makes it possible to link electrical and mechanical units via a force, but the experimental realization of this called the "ampere balance"...
