3. Phase measurement using voltmeters

When specialized instrumentation is lacking, the voltmeter is used.

The amplitude of the sum S and difference D of the voltages e ₁ and e ₂ to be compared is measured; the phase ϕ is given by : $cos φ = \frac{S^{2} - D^{2}}{4 E_{1} E_{2}}$
