In all, ISO federates 135 organizations, making it one of the largest international non-governmental associations.
ISO's 90 members are the most representative national standards committees in their country. This means that there can only be one ISO member per country. Over 70% of the members are in fact governmental institutions or public-law organizations. The table 1 shows the 15 national members which make the most significant contributions to ISO in terms of finance, administration and expertise. AFNOR, Association Française de Normalisation, is the French member body.
